The Fisheries Agency joins hands with religious groups to care for foreign crew members physically and mentally.

To care for foreign crew members who come to work in Taiwan, the Fisheries Agency, the Tung Kang Fishermen’s Association and the Catholic Social Charity Welfare Foundation held a year-end caring party on this (4th) day in Yanpu Fishing Port berthing area, Donggang, Pingtung County. Islamic and Catholic religious prayer ceremonies were arranged on site, and professional dancers from the home country of foreign crew members were invited to perform. Medical and legal consultations were provided, as well as haircut services by barbers. This event provides all-round physical and mental support to foreign crew members.
The Fisheries Agency explained that this event specially arranges Islamic imams and Catholic prayer leaders to pray together with foreign crew members to calm their minds; and employs doctors and rehabilitation therapists to check the health conditions of foreign crew members and provide medical consultation. Through physical therapy, it can relieve the fatigue of foreign crew members and relax their muscles and bones. On-site legal consultation services are provided to enable the crew to understand the laws and regulations and protect their own rights and interests. In addition, there are barbers present to trim the hair of the foreign crew members, so that the foreign crew members have a refreshing appearance and bring confidence and joy to the crew members; rich Southeast Asian delicacies were also prepared to relieve homesickness.
The Fisheries Agency stated that through this event, it will provide comprehensive support for foreign crew members who come to Taiwan to work in terms of religion, art, law, and life. They thank the foreign crew members for their hard work in Taiwan's fishery industry, and give out publicity materials such as bath towels, passport bags, etc. with complaint channels printed on them, so that foreign crew members can understand their own rights and interests.
Finally, the Fisheries Agency stated that in order to meet the life and resting needs of foreign crew members when returning to fishing port, the Yanpu berthing area is currently setting up showering and leisure facilities, which will provide foreign crew members with a space for showering, religious prayer, and leisure activities, so as to relieve the fatigue of fishing work and stabilize the physical and mental health of foreign crew members. In the future, the Fisheries Agency will continue to care for foreign crew members who come to work in Taiwan and promote the protection of their rights and interests.
