Fisheries Agency and Suao Fishermen’s Association hold a year-end gala for foreign crew member to show their care and consideration.
There is a group of foreign crew members from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam devoting to Taiwan's fishery at Yilan Nanfang’ao fishing port, which is one of the crucial fishing ports in Taiwan. To show their appreciation, care and consideration for them, Fisheries Agency, Coast Guard Administration and Suao Fishermen’s Association held a year-end gala at Nanfang’ao fishing port for foreign crew members, inviting them to join and have fun together.
Apart from a barbeque party, the event was spiced up with a stage for karaoke. With these arrangements, these foreign crew members had the chance to get up on stage singing and make friends with different cultural backgrounds. The atmosphere was vibrant and people enjoyed the event immensely. To appreciate the valuable service the foreign crew members have provided, Fisheries Agency also distributed reusable bag with kerchief and soap gift box inside and sent Brochures on Everyday Language and Common Words on Fishing Vessels and Information Cards on the Rights and Benefits of Crew Members, expecting foreign crew members to comply with our national laws and regulations and know better on their legal rights and benefits. Furthermore, Suao Fishermen’s Association even hold a raffle, drawing prizes such as clothes, beard shavers, soaps, blankets, sleeping bags and bath towels, which received enthusiastic welcome from the participants.
Besides wishing everyone a merry Christmas in advance, Deputy Director-General of the Fisheries Agency Mr. Cheng-Fang Wang also emphasize that foreign crew members are important partners at sea when delivering the speech. Vessel owners were asked to continually take great care of the living of foreign crew members, and foreign crew members were told to call 1955 (Counseling and Protection Hotline for Foreign Workers) if encountered any improper treatments or ask Suao Fishermen’s Association for help.
Throughout this year, Fisheries Agency has organized several caring events for foreign crew members such as charity hair cutting events with National Immigration Agency, Kaohsiung City Government, Pingtung County Government, Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, Kaohsiung Fishermen’s Association, Donggang Fishermen's Association and Keelung Fishermen's Association respectively. As these events were positively welcomed, Fisheries Agency will continue to hold relevant events.
At the end of the event, Fisheries Agency cleaned up the event venue with the foreign crew members and promoted that rubbish from vessels should be stored on board and to centralized processed when vessels are back on shore in order to protect marine environment and keep the harbor clean.Deputy Director-General of the Fisheries Agency Mr. Cheng-Fang Wang joined raffle with foreign crew members(open a new window)
