Conservation Zones

To maintain biodiversity and protect the coastal and marine ecology and environment, the government of Taiwan began in 1978 to plan the establishment of aquatic organisms propagation and conservation zones in areas containing important ecology or species. Today, a total of 30 aquatic organisms propagation and conservation zones covering an area of 59km2 have been established to conserve numerous marine organisms, including small abalones, lobsters, hard clams, purple clams, sea urchins, porphyra, gelidum, and top shells.
