Definition: Subject to authorization by the competent authorities, the access to the range of this class of MPAs is restricted to scientific research, survey or restocking; or entry is allowed, but prohibited from any conducts that may impact or damage the ecosystem, cultural heritages or natural features of the areas.

• Dongsha Atoll National Park –Marine Ecology Protected Area
• Kenting National Park –Marine Ecology Protected Area and Marine Designated Scenic Area and Sea Bottom Park
• Penghu Columnar Basalt Natural Reserve
• Xuhai Guanyinbi Natural Reserve
• Matsu Tern Refuge

Definition: Entirely prohibited from harvesting or exploiting natural resources or cultural hertages .

• Dongsha Atoll National Park – Designated scenic area
• Kenting National Park – marine recreation area and sea bottom park
• Mianhua Islet and Huaping Islet Wildlife Refuges – Buffer Areas
• Penghu Cat Islet Wildlife Refuge – Buffer Area
• Su’ao Fisheries Resources Conservation Area and Toucheng Fisheries Resources Conservation Area in Yilan County; Shengang Mud Shrimp Breeding Conservation Area (core area), Shengang (2) Mud Shrimp Breeding Conservation Area (core area), and Wanggong Mud Shrimp Breeding Conservation Area (core area) in Changhua County; Liuqiu Fisheries Resources Conservation Area – Shanfu Intertidal Terrain Conservation Demonstration Area in Pingtung County; and Fushan Fisheries Resources Conservation Area (core area) and Ludao Fisheries Resources Conservation Area in Taitung County. (8 localities in total)

Definition: Under the prerequisite of sustainable use, some harvesting activities are restricted, while allowing to a certain extent, the activities of using of ecological resources:

• Dongsha Atoll National Park – general control area
• Kenting National Park –power plant general control area and other general control areas
• Taijiang National Park – general control areas (1) and (2)
• Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area – Marine Resources Protected Areas within the area from Bitou Cape to Sandiao Cape
• East Coast National Scenic Area – Marine Resources Protected Areas within the area from Ludao Haisanping to Fanchuan Cape
• Keelung City Aquatic Plants and Animals Conservation Area, Gongliao and Wanli Aquatic Plants and Animals Conservation Areas in New Taipei City, Wanwa Venus Clam Breeding Conservation Area in Miaoli County (totaling 30 localities)
• Closed Areas for specific fishing methods and fishing gears
